Our Mission...

The purpose of this church will be to carry out the Great Commission of the Lord Jesus Christ as found in Matthew 28:18-20 which states:

And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.  Go therefore and make desciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

Therefore we exist to be God Centered, People Oriented, and Gospel Driven.

Church Library

The library at First Baptist Church is open for anyone in the community to use.  We have Christian resource books, Christian living books, biographies, books on etiquette and books on needlework, all for adults.  We also have many books available in the children's section for their reading enjoyment.  The library includes the history of the church in minutes, programs and bulletins.  All of these you can hold in your hand without straining your eyes with IPads or Kindles.  In addition to reading materials, we also laminate memories for parents and children.

Flowers Ministry

On Monday of each week, the flowers that were in the church sanctuary on Sunday are taken apart and rearranged and put into smaller vases.  The Flower Ministry members take these vases to the hospital and the nursing home and also to the "shut-ins" in the community.  This ministry raises the spirits of those that cannot physically attend our church services and helps spread God's word.

Nursing Home Ministry

Some years ago, members of the comfort Bible study class approached our then interim pastor about developing a weekly Bible study program to benefit residents of Lexington Manor, our local nursing home facility. The interim pastor believed in our ideas so much that he assumed responsibility to deliver the devotional weekly.  During our time with the residents we have a devotional which focuses on a Bible message that would encourage the residence and reinforce our belief that God loves them and has left them on earth to fulfill a specific purpose.

Prison Ministry

The Salt & Light program started at the Holmes-Humphrey Regional Correctional Center in Lexington in October 2013.

The program has the goal of helping inmates discover the kind of life skills many of them never received growing up. It is based upon discovering the principles that will produce a better way to live, to seize control of their future, and to create for themselves a life of fulfillment and purpose through a study of 40 Principles of Life Management.
