What We Offer

The Salt & Light program started at the Holmes-Humphrey Regional Correctional Center in Lexington in October 2013.

The program has the goal of helping inmates discover the kind of life skills many of them never received growing up. It is based upon discovering the principles that will produce a better way to live, to seize control of their future, and to create for themselves a life of fulfillment and purpose through a study of 40 Principles of Life Management.

Salt & Light is a group of men from various backgrounds who have a vision of carrying the program into all the regional prison facilities in Mississippi. They began in the Columbus-Starkville area almost 6 years ago and as of 2016, the program is in 9 regional centers.

The program has been very successful in the Lexington facility with testimony from many of the men saying how they have a new outlook on their lives due to the 40 different principles. As of February 2016, over 100 men have had the opportunity to take part in this highly interactive group study that covers principles to help them weather the storms of adversity they face.

The material for the program consists of 4 books for each inmate; each book covers 10 principles. The material is purchased from donations that are made through Grace Fellowship Church, P.O. Box 93, Lexington, MS 39095.

The Holmes County volunteers go into the prison each Monday night. The program never ends; when one 40-week period ends another one begins. Additional volunteers are needed. For more information, contact Melon Garrett at 662-458-5995.
